Photo Hunt - Memory

This week's theme is 'Memory' and here's my entry. This is an older photo, taken in our house in the UK. It has lots of memories for me.

First - the wall. This is the dining room and it was the first room we decorated. It was painted in a dark red gloss (!) when we bought the house and I painted over it in cream and colourwashed in terracotta.

Then - the embroidery. I stitched this in 1989. It's not the best picture of it but I chose it because of the wall (there's a slightly better photo in my stitching album in the General Embroidery section). I was stitching this when I heard my gran had died. Grannie and Gum (my name for my grandad) lived with us from when I was 3, so Grannie was very special to me. I was at university when she died, just about to go home for a 3 week holiday. I finished this off over that holiday so it will always be a memorial for her. It also reminds me of one of my best friends, who found me stitching at 6.30 in the morning the day after I got the news. She guessed at once what had happened.

  8. All of your needlework is so lovely. I used to have time to embroider and cross-stitch, even smock. Someday before I get too old, I'd like to do more. Beautiful.

  19. Great association of photo with embroidery with memories. I don't cross-stitch very much, more needlepoint and lately crochet, a little sewing but each piece will be associated with where I bought it or made it or what it represents.
