I'm back!

Don't faint in surprise! It's been a while hasn't it? Due to one thing and another I haven't had the heart to blog for quite a long time. Things are more settled now though, so hopefully I'm back!

In brief, the lovely job I had in Cambridge is no more. The office closed 10 days ago and I'm coming to terms with working from home. We were told just before Christmas (so a rather miserable and frugal holiday period) and it's obviously a worry financially. So far, I'm getting enough freelance work, but the only people I've spoken to in the last 10 days are Martin and our neighbour, so I need to start a craft group or something! It was a lovely job, with ups and downs of course, but about as good as you can get and I've been fairly depressed about it all.

Anyway, every cloud has a silver lining, and the fact that staff were treated pretty badly means I feel completely not guilty about using the last of the office's paper to print out stitching charts. This was a load of paper to carry home on the last day!

(Did you spot the cat on the roof outside!)

On to stitching photos. I've been too low to stitch as much lately, but I do have some finishes. I'll share them gradually over the next few days. Today you get a long overdue photo of a little finish for Joan's LHN RR. Joan has a gorgeous RR and her theme was needlework, so I stitched the Necessities Sampler for her. I'm afraid I didn't iron it before it went off, but here it is.

And here was the whole thing - isn't it great? I love the reels of thread round the sides.

I also received my own LHN RR back in the post. This round robin has been a bit of a trial I'm afraid. One of the stitchers had some major problems and not one single round reached me in time. In fact we thought three or four were lost for good as she stopped communicating. It made it all quite stressful and not what I hoped for! My RR is looking lovely though, so a big thank you to the ladies who did stitch on it.

There's one square unstitched from our problem person, so I'm not sure what to do about that yet.

That's the stitchy photos for today - more soon! I'll leave you with a photo of the lovely charm pack Karen sent me for my birthday. Thank you so much Karen!

  5. Thank you for posting the RR's. I am a good friend of Joan's and we haven't seen hers for awhile. The square you stitched on it is beautiful. Your RR is beautiful too! What fun. I bet you are glad to get it back. If you are looking for someone to stitch that last square--I would be willing too.

  8. Aw, I'm so sorry. DH lost his job too. If you need another stitcher for your RR, I'd be happy to help. I don't have any charts in that style, though, so you could pick out something for me to stitch. As you know, I'm a fast stitcher. ;-)

  12. NIkki, congratulations on getting your RR back - it's beautiful and so is the one you worked on for your friend. I have been in problem RR's too and have vowed 'no more' for me. I'd rather do SAL's and things like that. I am sorry about your job - so many of us are facing job loss/changes in these challenging times. I am sending good wishes to you that things work out alright.

  13. Your RR is one of the prettiest I've ever seen, honestly. Really, really beautiful!
I'm sorry about the RR. The Hello Neighbor one that I was in everyone got theirs back except me :(
Mine is lost in the postal system. I'll never do another...ever.
I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your job, and I know it has to be very upsetting. But my Mama always says, "When God closes a door he leaves a window open" so maybe this window will lead you to something spectacular beyond your wildest dreams. That's my hope for you!

  18. Sorry to hear about your job. LOL at using the last of the offices paper to print out charts... revenge is sweet!

The RRs are beautiful. They are good fun when everyone meets their committment, but so often people let other people down which is a shame.

  20. Yes, that's a great way to even things up a bit, printing out a few ( ;) ) charts on office supplies before leaving. Seriously, though, I am so sorry that you've got worries and sadness going on due to work and finances. It's not fun, as I know.

I see you've already gotten lots of offers to stitch that last square, but I want to volunteer, too. It would be an honor. :D

Take care. Feel free to email me anytime to talk!

  21. I'm glad to see you blogging again Nikki I always love seeing your needlework.

The work situation sucks, especially finding out just before Christmas. Good on you for getting all the printing done before you left. I'm worried about work too and having hobbies like reading and cross stitch does lift my mood.

  22. Good to see you back and I echo the others who said your RR looks wonderful. I do hope things will improve for you soon.

  23. It's great o see you post again, and what a beautiful show! Judging from those two RRs, you lot have been creating a set of heirlooms, despite the drop-out (which I'm sure you'll be able to replace somehow). Congrats to all of you!

So sorry to read about your job - I hope your work at home will make up for it.
