Shores block 2
Thank you so much for all the comments on Green Tree. I'm thinking of creating a 'bird' sampler wall with Green Tree, Their Song (already stitched) and I Love the Birds by Shakespeare's Peddler. Anyone got any other suggestions for me?!
Once I'd finished Green Tree I frogged that dark fish colour on block 2 of Shores and got on with stitching again. I used 612 instead and the block is done - a fast one.
It's funny, but I don't actually like this block too much as it is, but I love it with the other blocks. Weird.

Woohoo, Nicki! Great job. I was the same on that block--didn't trip my twanger--but I often go back and admire it now that there are blocks around it. Lovely work!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, other bird charts... Plum Street Paulette has two that I can think of right off the top of my head--Morning Bird and I think the other is called Bird in the Bower? Carriage House has The Song They Sang and Flit (Flirt?) A Feather. GH has Song of the Sparrow--I think that's the name. I know there are others, but those come to mind right off. Of course, BBD has a bunch. I can't wait to see what you choose!
Beautiful stitching, and congratulations on finishing another block! I love the colors in this.
ReplyDeleteLove your latest finish, and SOHRH is looking great! As for bird samplers, I love the one that Nicole finished recently:

:D
Congrats on the new block, very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI have thought of doing a bird wall also! Great minds think alike! I want to do Dainty Housewren by CHS and several others whose names escape me right now. Shores is looking great!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your Block #2 finish on Shores. My favorite design, featuring a bird, is the bird block on Christmas at HRH.
ReplyDeleteLooking good Nicki!
ReplyDeleteI *love* the bird sampler wall idea - how lovely! I stiched "Morning Bird" (that Siobhan mentions) last year and still have the chart if you'd like it.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved Abbey Lane's "Sweet Bird" (the only place online I can seem to find it is abcstitch.com).
Ooooh, a bird sampler wall sounds fantastic! You've already got lots of great suggestions so I will throw in a couple of new ones:
ReplyDeleteCHS' Frederika and/or Frederick. Since they are single birds they will provide a different note to the sampler wall. It's good to vary the size of designs a bit to draw the eye then to look at each one. Hope that makes sense.
No matter, just have fun!
Don't really have any significant bird ideas, buy I think your comment about liking/not liking Shores makes perfect sense--It's a case of "The whole being more than the sum of its parts." :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I feel the same way exactly about this block.
Beautiful progress on Shores. I love the addition of the fish!
ReplyDeleteA bird sampler wall would be beautiful! Have you seen the Bird Sampler by Birds of a Feather? It's great. And if you want something a little more whimsical, how about Ida Mae Crow and her companion, Ira Ray Crow from the Goode Huswife? I'm stitching Ida Mae right now, and she is adorable!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing block 2 - it looks fabulous. I think I may go with 612 also as yours looks so good. I'm afaraid I haven't finished my block yet - had a busy month!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a bird sampler wall - don't have any suggestions that haven't already been mentioned though
I love the idea of a bird samlper wall. Off the top of my head I can't really think of any charts, but I will love seeing what you end up stitching.
ReplyDeleteShores is looking great. There are a few blocks in these pieces I don't like on their own, but put with the whole thing they are fantastic.
You're doing great Nicki :) I wish I were inspired to work on Houses....
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend :)
I know what you mean - not all of the blocks in Shores appeal to me individually, but all together, I'm really happy with the "whole" piece.
ReplyDeleteGreat progress!
Nicki - I was the same way that block. I keep hearing the Sponge Bob Square Pants song going through my head. But it does fit in with the others! Off the top of my head, how about Ellen Birdseye or Weeping Tree Sampler, or Margaret Pence - they all have birds in them.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous finish on Block 2. I need to get back to mine. Glad to hear it's a fast one! I love your idea of the bird collection. Pretty!!
ReplyDeleteYour block 2 looks fantastic Nicki. Not quite finished mine as I had to frog one side of the border and so much of the red seaweed as I was stitch short in the border!
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic. Cannot wait to see more :)
