SALs and a near win!

First, anyone remember this? It was a birthday exchange I made last year. It's Little House Needlework's Miniature Home Gameboard on Silkweaver's Cocoa linen. I entered it in the Silkweaver Showcase and I was a finalist (well spotted Cathy!) No prize, but as it was the first and only thing I've ever entered I'm really pleased! I knew it worked well - I even bought a second piece of Cocoa to do it again myself. Congratulations to the other finalists and the winners!

On to the regular Tuesday posting - Toccata II with Tash. I did C and that gold square this week. I really struggled with the Japan thread and I'm not too happy about the end effect of the square. Hopefully I'll get more experienced using it as I go along.

Then yesterday was the start of my Winter's Eve SAL with Lina. This is where it was when I last stitched on it - way back in May last year. And I think I only worked on it once last year too! I finally got that metallic thread done and some of the satin stitching too.

I'm quite a long way along on this already but when I finish it I'll work on Mystery VIII as Lina's ahead of me on that one. Hopefully it'll balance out and we'll both have two finished Chatelaines at about the same time!

Congratulations on getting into the final stages of the Showcase!

Love your WIPs - I found the Japan thread hard to use too, although it got easier the more I did. I also found using a frame and stand helped a lot.

  5. Very cool that you were a finalist. I love that fabric.

I think that your Tocatta looks great. The gold square is very pretty. I give you full credit for even attempting to use it because I think I would have found something else for that section.

And your Winter's Eve is beautiful. It is very tempting to me, like I need another Chatelaine.

  10. I know what you mean about the stupid Japan thread. The #7 is the worst, it's just so inflexible, it doesn't stay where you want it to!
    But yours looks lovely!

    Congrats on being a finalist!

  18. I think I am nearly caught up with your blog now ;-) You do so well getting to be a finalist , I would have let you win! I too love Toccata and would have bought it last time I was at Harrogate for the stitching show, but I had ran out of money and didn't dare set too with the credit card or there would have been no stopping me...lol!!
